DAP makes police report over secession claims

Posted: 04 Sep 2014 10:06 AM PDT

KOTA KINABALU: DAP Sabah secretary Dr Edwin Bosi yesterday made a police report against the blogger of Pisau.Net at the Penampang police station for allegedly posting a defamatory article against the party.

Dr Bosi said the blogger's article entitled "DAP lancar kempen pisahkan Sabah, Kit Siang dan Dyana Lim terlibat" is defamatory, seditious and a lie.

"The blogger also gave a wrong account of what transpired in Keningau on 31 August 2014 and then claimed that DAP is working to break Sabah and Sarawak from Malaysia to facilitate the party to control Malaya and maybe to unite with Singapore," he said.

"Pisau.Net stated that DAP has launched three campaigns which are Impian Sabah to attract votes, the oath stone involving autonomy issue and to hasten the report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants.

"The blogger is spreading half truths because the three campaigns launched in Keningau on 31 August 2014 were to remind the government of their guarantee to the natives of the Interior the three promises of religion, land and the native culture and customs inscribed on the oath stone, the petition drive to demand the government to release the report of the RCI on illegal immigrants and the launching of the post Malaysia generation movement," he said in a statement yesterday.

During the press conference on 1st September 2014 and as reported the next day, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang when asked about secession, told the reporters that there is no question on secession as far as DAP is concerned.

Kit Siang said that DAP has never advocated for secession of Sabah and Sarawak from Malaysia. He pointed out that under the Malaysian Law secession is considered sedition and said that DAP has been advocating for democratic change or reform to democracy in Malaysia.

In the police report, Dr Bosi who is Kapayan assemblyman, wants the police to investigate the blogger of Pisau.Net for three offences namely under Section 499 of the Penal Code for defamation against DAP and its leaders, especially Kit Siang. The second is under Section 504 and 505 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace and statements conducing to public mischief respectively.

Dr Bosi also urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to investigate Pisau.Net under the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 for disseminating defamatory, seditious and false news and information to the public.

He was accompanied by DAP Penampang deputy chief Franky Lobinjang and DAP Melalap chief Lawrence Piki when lodging the police report.

by Elton Gomes. Posted on September 5, 2014, Friday

KOTA KINABALU: Police will continue to monitor and take legal action against illegal motorcycle racers or 'mat rempit' for causing public disturbance along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen, near Centre Point shopping mall and Api-api apartment.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said several complaints have been made by the public following the presence of 'mat rempit' in the area for several weeks.

"Actually, we have detained 11 racers for numerous offences and confiscated 19 motorcycles for the past several weeks," he said at a meet-the-public program at Api-Api apartment here yesterday.

According to Chandra, the police would also detain members of the public for watching as their action was tantamount to supporting the illegal activity.

On the issue of illegal street kids and youth loitering, Chandra said both the managements from Api-Api apartment and Centre Point shopping mall have pledged to cooperate with the police to fight such negative activity.

According to Chandra, one way of combating such a problem is through public cooperation.

"The public can play their part by informing the relevant authorities about the presence of illegal street kids or youth loitering for appropriate action to be taken.

"Such negative activity will bring bad impression to our city as well as tourists and we must work together to tackle such issue from happening," he said.

Soldiers fire at intruding pump boat off Sabah, arrest man

Posted: 04 Sep 2014 09:55 AM PDT

SANDAKAN: Security forces fired at a pump boat that had encroached into Malaysian waters off Sabah on Wednesday and arrested an injured man armed with a machete who was in the vessel.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) commander DCP Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun said today the man, who was injured in the left calf and right hand, was taken to Pulau Bakungan Kecil for first aid and then sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital here.

The boat was one of eight that had encroached into Malaysian waters on their way from Pulau Bakungan Besar in the Philippines to Pulau Selingan located 25 kilometres from Sandakan at 1.45pm, he said.

"The suspect is in stable condition," he said in a statement.

Abdul Rashid said soldiers deployed in Pulau Bakungan Kecil came to know that several boats from Pulau Bakungan Besar in the Philippines were headed to Pulau Selingan, and six soldiers rushed to the location in a boat.

"At the location, the soldiers saw eight pump boats in Malaysian waters with one person aboard each of the vessels," he said.

Abdul Rashid said the soldiers fired three warning shots into the air to chase away the boats but only two vessels turned back to the Philippines.

"The boatmen mocked the soldiers and one of the boats with a man armed with a machete approached the soldiers' vessel. The soldiers fired in self-defence," he said.
