Sarawak wants Bumiputera to rise in SME Masterplan — Naroden ... Posted: 22 Apr 2014 12:38 PM PDT SRI AMAN: Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are crucial in a country's development because they are the heart of the nation. In a speech read by Lingga assemblywoman Simoi Peri, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Office (Entrepreneur Development) Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais said the contribution of local SMEs to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2013 grew by 33 per cent. "SME Corporation is targeting an increase to 40 per cent by 2020, in tandem with the High Impact Programme (HIP) strategy under the SME Masterplan (2010-2012)," he said. He added that in Sarawak, SMEs contribute 5.5 per cent to the country's GDP and is expected to increase by 6.8 per cent with the industry booming from year to year. In an effort to make Malaysia a high income nation by 2020, the government has implemented the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) which will raise the per capita gross national income of about RM23,700 in 2009 to double up to more than RM48,000 in 2020. He said the government wanted the active participation of Bumiputeras in the entrepreneurial sector as one of the strategic approaches towards the development of Bumiputera Commercial and Industrial Community (BCIC). "Despite the growing number of Sarawak Bumiputera entrepreneurs, the status quo is bound by the characteristics of traditions of small-scale, putting us a bit behind and making it hard to compete with non-Bumiputera entrepreneurs," he said. Simoi was representing Naroden at the closing ceremony of the Business Plan Preparation and Entrepreneurship Opportunity Seminar organised by the Chief Minister's Office (Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development Unit), together with the Sri Aman Resident Office and Sri Aman Youth Development Committee. Meanwhile, the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKLW) has channelled RM8,500,000 in financial assistance to 11 successful participants of the Rural Business Challenge (RBC) Programme which was conducted throughout Malaysia in 2012. Naroden said the amount given last year increased to RM17,650,000 and was distributed between various fields and categories. "The four focus areas of this programme are services, rural tourism, agriculture and manufacturing. This is evidence that the government is concerned about the development of entrepreneurs in this country through a variety of initiatives," he said. Also present were Sarawak Bumiputera Development Unit head Awang Putra Yusri, Sri Aman Deputy Resident (Social) Hamdan Katang, Economic Bureau chairman from Sri Aman Youth Development Committee, Wan Asri Wan Akil, Pemanca Mas Shamsiah, and others. A total of 150 youths and young entrepreneurs in Sri Aman attended the seminar. |
Salibasic refutes claims by Kelantan opponent – BorneoPost Online ... Posted: 22 Apr 2014 10:17 AM PDT by Wilfred Pilo, reporters@theborneopost.com. Posted on April 23, 2014, Wednesday KUCHING: Sarawak striker Muamer Salibasic has denied that he bad-mouthed Kelantan's Fitri Omar during their Super League match last Friday. Salibasic said he was a professional and refuted Fitri's allegation when met by reporters after the launching of the state-wide 'Lets Read Together For 10 minutes' programme at the State Library by the Chief Minister's wife Puan Sri Dato Jamilah Anu yesterday. The lanky Bosnian striker, whom many considered a pillar of Sarawak's strike force, appeared relaxed as he maintained his innocence. "I am not sure what Fitri thinks of me but I did not say anything that can harm him or other players during the match," he added when asked about the Kelantan leftback's charge. The incident purportedly sparked some unhappiness among Kelatanese supporters after the Red Warriors were beaten 0-1 by the Crocs at Kota Bahru. A national daily on Tuesday reported that Sarawak Football Association (FAS) secretary general Abdullah Julaihi would call Salibasic to find out the truth of the matter. Abdullah said that as far as he and FAS were concerned, Salibasic is a professional footballer with the ambition of only winning for Sarawak. Friday's victory marked Sarawak's first win in Kota Bahru in 12 years. The Crocs not only broke the jinx but gained three points to push Sarawak to fourth position in the Super League. Earlier Salibasic and other Crocs, who were guests at the event, signed autographs at the State Library foyer. |
