Too much politics breeds immaturity, says Nancy BorneoPost ... Posted: 17 Jan 2014 01:39 AM PST KUCHING: The intellectual development of Malaysians is bound to be impeded if they continue to indulge in too much politics, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Nancy Shukri. She said every issue now seemed to be politicised, waylaying Malaysians from focusing on the development objectives that needed to be attained. "I think politicians, be they from the right wing or left wing, should not be politicising things too much, as it doesn't help our people to develop," she told reporters after attending the launching of Sabah and Sarawak Legal Year by the Chief Justice of Malaysia Tun Arifin Zakaria, here, today. "We are not helping our people to become more intellectual but making them more immature in politics instead." She made the remarks following the objection made by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) recently against the redelineation exercise by the Election Commission (EC). Nancy said if Bersih was really living up to its name, it should look at the exercise in a positive way, rather than purely politics. She cited the constituencies in Sarawak and Sabah, with some being very vast with many areas hardly accessible, hence the redelineation exercise had become an urgent need. "I think it is unfair for them (Bersih to stop the EC's redelineation exercise). They should be the ones giving good proposals on the redelineation exercise," she said. Meanwhile, Nancy said the government would not reverse its decision on the Internal Security Act (ISA) by re-introducing it even though there was pressure to do so. She said the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 and the amended Prevention of Crime Act 1959 already contained the necessary elements and could always be improved to curb serious crimes in the country. – Bernama To enable your comment to be published, please refrain from vulgar language, insidious, seditious or slanderous remarks.
