Loss of pistol due to negligence, no violation of SOP Posted: 15 Jan 2014 11:33 AM PST by Anasathia Jenis, reporters@theborneopost.com. Posted on January 16, 2014, Thursday KUCHING: Initial investigation revealed that a policeman who lost his pistol with two magazines in Satok on Monday was negligent. Deputy police commissioner SAC Datuk Law Hong Soon also said there was no violation of standard operating procedures (SOP) but they were taking the matter seriously and would investigate from all aspects. "Disciplinary action will definitely be taken against the policeman if he is found to be negligent," Law told reporters after witnessing the handover of duty by outgoing Sarawak GOF brigade commander Datuk Wan Abdullah Tuanku Said to acting deputy commander ACP Zahari Ahmad at Batu Kawa Camp here yesterday. Also present was federal police Internal Security and Public Order director Datuk Seri Salleh Mat Rasid. In the incident on Sunday, the pistol is believed to be stolen from the Lundu-based policeman who was drunk and dozing in his car. The case of the lost weapon was linked to the finding of two pistol magazines with 21 P99 'live' bullets which was the standard bullet used by police in the country. On a separate case, Law said the post mortem examination of a Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) student found dead in a stream within the university ground Tuesday would be known soon. "It is still early to say if a third party is involved as we are waiting for the post mortem result to determine the cause of her death." The remains are believed to be that of Siti Najwa Atikah Azhar, 19, a first year student of Faculty of Science Social from Penang who was discovered missing a few days earlier. "There are factors that may contribute to her death which we will eventually know. "The case is still under investigation but for the time being it is too early to draw a conclusion," he added.
