The Sultanate’s first cable-stayed bridge construction begins

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The much-anticipated bridge in the country that will function as a link from Kg Sungai Kebun to Jalan Residency across Brunei River has finally begun its initial construction yesterday, Brudirect reported.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday in Jalan Residency led by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.

The bridge is a project under the 10th National Development Plan spearheaded by Korean firm Daelim Industrial and TRC which is slated to be completed by 2016.

The Ministry of Development is the lead agency for the project has also incorporated a number of other fixtures into its design,making the bridge, a structure that will dominate the Kg Ayer skyline and as a supplement to the already picturesque area – highly functional from a number of different aspects.

The $139 million project will become the first cable-stayed bridge in the Sultanate, which has a 300-metre main span and 157-metre-high pylon cable tower.

The bridge once is built, it will expected to cater estimated 9,000 vehicles moving to and from Mukim Lumapas and its surrounding areas and it also aimed to reduce traffic congestion along Jalan Bengkurong Masin and Jalan Tutong, which sees more than 18,000 vehicles on a daily basis.

According to the press release issued by the Public Works Development, the bridge is one of the country's most important projects as it is expected to reflect milestone that signifies another success in the construction industry. ©BRUDIRECT.COM

Landslides left huge hole near Bukit Shahbandar

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: For the past few days, the Sultanate experienced heavy downpour throughout all four districts that triggered flash floods and landslides, leaving some routes to be inaccessible to road users, Brudirect reported.

One of the most notable incidents include the discovery of a twenty-feet wide and ten-feet deep hole where used to be it was the road leading up to the moon sighting near Bukit Shahbandar, Kg Jerudong. The Ministry of Development viewed the particular occurrence as "strongly exceptional" because landslides have never occurred around the affected vicinity.

Several landslides also occurred in Kg Lugu. A site inspection led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman, the Minister of Development stated that landslides-hit areas will receive technical assistance and relief support. The Minister also added that the Public Works Department (PWD) will continue to work closely with the public with regards to the landslide incidents.

As of date, no landslides-related fatalities have been reported. Yet, the Minister reminded members of the public to exercise extreme caution in bad weather conditions while at the same time urging them to report any landslide occurrence to the relevant authorities. ©BRUDIRECT.COM

3-day motivational talk organized by the labour department

Bandar Seri Begawan: To give a better understanding on the importance and concept of self-motivation, and the concept of integrity in carrying-out daily duties with full ethics, the Labour Department organized a three-day motivational talk for their staff and it began yesterday, Brudirect reported

Two speakers from RTC Services who are retired government officers namely RTC Services Director, Junaidi Omar; and former Senior Assistant Director and Head of Integrity and Good Governance of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Hj Abdullah bin Abd Rahman delivered the talks.

Hj Abdullah focused on the integrity and ethics in the public service. According to him, when a person possesses integrity, they would not commit sinful acts or get influenced.

In Islam, the integrity criterion is a pious act, which is committing all the good deeds and prohibits all the wrong doings. ©BRUDIRECT.COM
