PWD disproved whatsapp message as fake, reinforcement works in progress Posted: 26 Jan 2014 05:24 PM PST BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A rumor circulating through social media via 'WhatsApp' regarding the cracks on Jalan Tungku between the new Police Headquarters building and the Narcotics Control Bureau has been dismissed by the Public Works Department (PWD) as fake, Brudirect reported. The propaganda 'WhatsApp' message states the cracks along the road was due to the underside of the road being hollow. According to a press statement issued by Department of Roads, PWD, the cracks occurred due to slope movement caused by continuous heavy rain in the last few days. The PWD would like to assure the public that the road is still passable and safe to be used. They also advise road users to take extra care while driving through the area and to follow traffic signage. Heavy vehicles are asked to use alternative routes such as Jalan Kg Mata-Mata and Spg 324 of Jalan Kg Rimba. The PWD have taken several measures in order to make sure there will not be any further movements. The cracks have been sealed to stop water intrusion that may trigger further movements. The department has also arranged the installation of temporary sheet piles along the toe of the slope and will reinstate the road as soon as the temporary works are completed. Permanent walls will also be installed along the slope. PWD continuously monitors the situation while requesting public's cooperation to stop spreading false propaganda. The department reminded members of the public that PWD does not issue official information via 'WhatsApp'. Official information can be accessed on the Department's website at www.pwd.gov.bn or via the Department's Official Facebook page, "Jabatan Kerja Raya Brunei Darussalam". Harnessing ruin: Road caves in along jalan duta Posted: 22 Jan 2014 04:19 PM PST BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A road along Jalan Duta was partially collapsed as day-long rainfall and flooding continued to overwhelm the Sultanate, rendering the road inaccessible to motorists, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported. Some sources indicated that excessive water passage seeping into steep terrains around the vicinity might have caused the gradual disintegration as land eroded into a slit. According to Public Works Department (PWD), water barriers will be installed with road closure taking immediate effect until the situation was fully resolved. PWD advised motorists to exercise extreme caution during the adverse weather conditions that come together with flash floods, mudslides and other similar phenomena across the globe.
