Flight to Thailand continues despite unrest

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) will not cancel its flights to Thailand, but will extend its consideration for passengers who are traveling to and from Bangkok that allows them to defer their travel plans under certain set of conditions listed out in a memo for all travel agents in the Sultanate, Brudirect reported.

Thailand is currently experiencing political unrest in its capital following the government decision to proposed amnesty bill that would pardon Abhisit Vejjajiva and Suthep Thaugsuban while facilitating the return of Thaksin Shinawatra, the self-exiled former prime minister.

In a memo issued by RB, changes will only be permitted for those who purchased their tickets before December 4 2013 for departures between January 10 and February 12 2014. Passengers are allowed to defer their departure dates to no later than the end of March. It is subject to seat availability in the same booking class.

Passengers will be required to pay the fare differential, taxes and other surcharges should they opt to change their destination within the RB network. RB also added that the company will not be liable for any penalties including hotel or other ground operators' fees. In addition, the reissuance fee waiver will only be valid once.

RB anticipated an increase in political riots in Bangkok and as such, traffic disruptions, blockages and delays are expected to occur from January 13 onwards. On that date, passengers traveling to Suvarnabhumi Airport are advised to leave for the airport minimum four hours prior to the time schedule in their departure.

Suvarnabhumi Airport Operation Centre will assist passengers affected by the unrest and its authority recommended the passengers to use public transportation in the nation's capital such as the Airport Rail Link, Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) Skytrain, the Metropolitan Rapi Transit (MRT) or the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).
