The Hibiscus on exhibit at RH Hotel Sibu Posted: 08 Jan 2014 11:50 AM PST SIBU: Property investors and buyers can view and enquire about The Hibiscus at Port Dickson at an exibition at RH Hotel Sibu this weekend. It will be at The Hibiscus Room Level 1 on Saturday and Sunday (Jan 11-12) from 10am to 7pm. A press release said The Hibiscus at Port Dickson is a new mega resort project featuring 642 homes built on stilts above the sea — the largest water home resort in Malaysia. Designed by world-renowned architecture firm Broadway Malyan of London, which has designed countless iconic projects worldwide, The Hibiscus is developed by established property developer Kuala Lumpur Metro Group (KL Metro Group) on a joint venture basis with the investment arm of the Negeri Sembilan state government . Situated on 43 acres, The Hibiscus is located on beach front at the southern part of Port Dickson. Port Dickson is a famous resort destination for holidaymakers and tourists from Kuala Lumpur, as it is just an hour's drive from the city. Each unit comes with a private pool, sauna room and panoramic view of the Straits of Melaka, while the bedroom is fitted with a transparent glass panel for sea viewing. The project incorporates green concepts such as floor-to-ceiling glass windows in the bedroom, bathroom and pool deck for natural light to reduce the need for artificial lighting. The round roof structure also deflects much of the sun's heat. The Hibiscus is rated a designated five-star hotel with units ranging from 770 sq feet to 872 sq feet. Phase One of the 770 sq foot units have sold out, while Phase Two 872 sq foot units are 75 per cent sold. The project is near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) and F1 Circuit in Sepang. The recent discovery of coral reefs near the project site has added extra charm to the surrounding environment. Construction work commenced in July 2011 and the project is scheduled for completion this December. The developer has registered the copyright for the Hibiscus Project since 2007. KL Metro Group is currently the largest water homes developer in Malaysia and has completed resorts in Port Dickson including Lexis PD (formerly The Legend Water Chalets) and Grand Lexis PD (formerly The Legend International Water Homes). All the resorts were completed months ahead of schedule without compromising on standard and quality despite the world economic downturn in 2008 to 2009. The resorts have 715 units in total and have achieved 100 per cent sales records with 46 per cent overseas buyers from 40 countries, with most coming from Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Macau. KL Metro Group has in recent years won prestigious international property awards such as CNBC's International Property Award (2007) — London; Bloomberg's Asia Pacific Commercial Property Awards (2010) — Hong Kong; Century International Quality ERA Award (2011) — Geneva; and the Trip Advisor: Certificate of Excellence Award 2012. Potholed road endangers lives of road users Posted: 08 Jan 2014 11:49 AM PST SRI AMAN: The appalling condition of potholed Jalan Michael Pilo here is a cause for concern. A road user who did not wish to be identified said Jalan Michael Pilo is the main access road linking Sri Jaya area and the town, so repair should have been done immediately. He blamed heavy vehicles for damaging the road which led to the potholes, and feared the road's condition could worsen and endanger the lives of motorists. "I call upon the relevant authority to repair the potholed road," he said. Meanwhile Simanggang assemblyman Datuk Farncis Harden Hollis who is also Assistant Minister for Rural Development took time to inspect infrastructural and telecommunication development in Undop, Batu Lintang. He wanted to ensure everything went smoothly in the area, and identify shortcomings that lie at the root of public complaints. "The Barisan Nasional government wants to ensure the people benefit from continuous development so they should channel any complaint to the right authority or group," advised Harden who also visited a road upgrading project in the area. Harden spent three hours in Undop, accompanied by councillor Sawing Sumar and representative from SUPP Simanggang Youth, Patrick Michael Malajin. Leaders aligned to Wong to leave SUPP if Wong quits Posted: 08 Jan 2014 11:44 AM PST SIBU: Cracks in SUPP, the oldest political party in Sarawak, seems to be widening after the nine leaders aligned to Sibu branch chairman dropped another bombshell – that they will leave SUPP with Wong if Wong decides so. The nine are Datuk Lee Khim Shin, Andrew Shilling, Datuk Francis Harden, Suzanne Lee, Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Ku Fut Po, Ranun Mina, Phang Dah Nan and Dr Johnical Rayong. In their joint press statement yesterday, they said unanimously: "We are united; we will sink or swim with Dato Sri Wong. If he decides to leave SUPP, we will walk with him." They added that if Wong decided to stay on and fight against the injustice perpetuated by the purported CWC, they would stand with him. With the tussle in the party that developed in 2011, allegedly from irregularities in the party election, the statement from Wong's faction yesterday appeared to suggest that the party was heading to an ugly side – a possible split finally between Wong's faction and Chin's faction. In the statement, the nine questioned whether the CWC was trying to find ways to weed out Wong for standing in their way. "But, they seem to have forgotten the legitimacy of their own election that is still in the hands of the ROS." The nine said Chin's faction should instead be working for unity instead of trying to purge leaders not with them. Meanwhile, in another statement issued by Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who is the Second Finance Minister and the Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Wong said there was a claim from a Chinese daily that he had been sacked by the party's Central Working Committee (CWC). Recently, Wong had said he did not recognise the legitimacy of this committee at all. He said the committee was elected at the last SUPP Triennial Delegates Conference through irregularities, which had gone all the way down to the branch elections. "I told these irregularities to the then president (Datuk Patinggi) Tan Sri (Dr) George Chan, then secretary-general Datuk Sim Kheng Hui and Tan Sri Peter Chin, a candidate for the then party president." He said Chan had then agreed to see the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to postpone the TDC for the election irregularities to be resolved first. "But Chin's faction had instead gone ahead with the TDC elections, knowing of the election irregularity complaints and knowing that some branch delegates had been denied their voting rights at the TDC." On whether the CWC and the Central Committee were legitimate, he said it was a matter rested with the ROS now. He said while ROS was probing the complaints, it had directed SUPP to only deal with routine business until it had decided on the controversial issue. "Therefore, I have never recognised the legitimacy of the current CWC. Its legal standing lies with the ROS now." On Chin's statement that the CWC would not divulge its decision to the press before telling him (Wong) of its decision, Wong said: "It seems Chin has no control over his CWC members because Sin Chew Daily has already published their purported decision to sack me". Following this publication, he believed Chin would let him know of their decision now because his CWC had already leaked this information to Sin Chew Daily. "When I receive their letter, I will issue an appropriate response," he asserted. Posted: 08 Jan 2014 11:43 AM PST by Jonathan Chia, reporters@theborneopost.com. Posted on January 9, 2014, Thursday KUCHING: Although the Central Working Committee (CWC) of SUPP did not announce their decision on the disciplinary hearing against its Sibu branch chairman, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, it seems to be a foregone conclusion that the axe has fallen on Wong's membership. A source from the party told The Borneo Post yesterday that the CWC members, had agreed to sack Wong during their meeting on Tuesday night. However, they left it to party president Tan Sri Peter Chin and secretary-general Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian to communicate the decision to Wong. "In principle, all CWC and Central Committee members thought that he (Wong) has done much damage to the party and betrayed it and therefore deserved to be sacked. "They are of the opinion that all the investigations of the disciplinary committee were fairly and justly conducted. Based on the findings, it is obvious that Soon Koh has betrayed the party," the source added. Among the reasons for the expulsion was Wong's appointment of community leaders and councillors in his capacity as Minister of Local Government and Community Development without consulting the party central leadership. He was also found to have encouraged his followers to lobby as candidates during the last election although the party had already announced its candidates, which showed that Wong who is a full state minister representing SUPP, had very little respect for the party leadership. "He (Wong) can say that he does not recognise Tan Sri Peter Chin as the party president but he must respect the latter as a party leader. "He also appointed a BN 'Pemanca' in Sarikei who was a DAP election campaign member in the last state election. How can this be?" The source also said that SUPP members were unhappy with Wong, alleging that he had used his ministerial power to stop those against him from becoming community leaders and officials in the local government. "We have been very patient enough with him but it seems that he just wants to do things in his own way." 1Azam programme surpasses 7,500-participant target Posted: 08 Jan 2014 11:43 AM PST KUCHING: There is no denying that many 1Azam participants have sold off equipments given to them by the government to help them get out of poverty. Speaking to reporters after presenting gifts to the first batch of 1Azam graduates for sewing and bakery courses run by The Society for Kuching Urban Poor (SKUP) here yesterday Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah admitted that there had been cases of its kind although she did not know the reason why. "We don't have the exact number but I have been made to understand that several participants have done so for reasons only known to them." Fatimah said that a total of 7,741 participants were trained under the 1Azam programme last year involving an allocation of RM111 million. "The number exceeded our key performance index (KPI). Our target to train 7,500 hardcore poor families under the government's poverty eradication programme and to help us implement this programme we engaged several agencies including non-governmental organisations (NGOs)," she said. She said the idea to introduce the 1Azam programme was to help the participants improve their socio-economic status and get them out of the poverty cycle through involvement in small scale businesses such as tailoring, sewing and bakery. Under this programme the government would provide equipment such as sewing machine, space, oven, wok, electronic food processor and blender and induction cooker to the participants. Unfortunately, she said, some were later found to have sold their equipment instead of using them to start doing their business. "I really don't know why that happened but the possible reason that I can think of is due to mismatch because the courses they attended were of no interest to them. "Perhaps, the implementing agencies need to monitor their respective participants very closely to ensure that such problem would not happen again. "They must ensure that every participant will only go for a course of their interest and that their progress be monitored after they have graduated. We want to make sure that each and every one of them will benefit from the programme and be able to get out of the trappings of. This is our target," she said. Earlier, Fatimah praised SKUP for its passion in helping to provide training to 44 participants from poor families living within the city limit. Some of them attended the sewing course while others were trained in bakery. Among those present at the function were SKUP president Kapitan Peter Wong Hung Huang and the ministry's permanent secretary Rodziah Morshidi.
