Four from ‘G5′ reinstated as SPDP members

Posted: 19 Mar 2014 01:00 AM PDT

KUCHING: The Sarawak Progressive Democratic Part (SPDP) has officially reinstated four of the former leaders from what was dubbed the Group of Five (G5), putting an end to the infighting saga that affected party solidarity over the years.

SPDP former senior vice president Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie and three other assemblymen namely Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran (Marudi), Rosey Yunus (Bekenu) and Paulus Palu Gumbang (Batu Danau) received their certificate of reinstatement after reapplying to join the party.

However, former Mas Gading MP Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe was not reinstated, having contested against the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the May 2013 general election. Previously, Entri was a former secretary-general while Paulus was Information Chief. Rosey was a vice-president.

The four elected representatives were officially reinstated as ordinary members in a ceremony held at Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem's office earlier today. Also present were SPDP president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom and supreme council members.

Break-in, vehicle theft syndicate believed crippled

Posted: 18 Mar 2014 12:57 PM PDT

MIRI: The police here believed they have crippled a break-in and vehicle theft syndicate with the arrest of three men – a local and two illegal immigrants – and the seizure of stolen goods estimated at RM150,000 last week.

Local police chief ACP Gan Tian Kee said the 38-year-old local man, was the mastermind of the syndicate who was involved in no less than 10 break-in cases in and around here.

"His roles are to monitor certain areas and to identify potential targets before calling on his accomplices to commit the crime.

"With their arrest last week, we believe that we have solved at least 10 break-in and vehicle theft cases especially in Taman Tunku area which were reported since last year," Gan told a press conference at police headquarters here yesterday.

CID chief DSP Nixon Joshua Ali, ASP Cheong Soon Yew and several other officers were also present at the press conference.

Gan went on to say that the police led by Inspector Huzaimi went to the house in Lopeng to arrest the local man at 5.55pm March 7 after receiving information from a member of the public. Among those seized were seized a silver-coloured Proton Saga FLX with fake registration number.

Inside the car were found a Lenovo-brand laptop and several house-breaking tools. From the house were found a plasma television which is believed stolen from a
house at Taman Fabulous in Airport Road and a Mitsubishi Triton 4WD vehicle believed stolen from a house at Lite View Garden in Holiday Park on Jan 28 and 19 respectively.

Another police team led by Inspector Nasrul Hadi went to a construction site at Taman Jelita in Taman Tunku to arrest two Indonesian men. The police believed that two or three more suspects were still at large.

"The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code
for group and armed robbery, and Section 457 for break-ins and thefts," Gan said.

Section 395/397 carries a 20 years' jail and a fine
for conviction while Section 457 carries a 14 years' jail term or fine or both upon conviction.

Only BN credible agent of change — Yussibnosh

Posted: 18 Mar 2014 12:55 PM PDT

by Peter Sibon and Lian Cheng, reporters@theborneopost.com. Posted on March 19, 2014, Wednesday

MUKAH: BN candidate Yussibnosh Balo says he will try to reach out to as many voters as possible during the campaign period to garner support and shore up confidence so that they will vote for him come polling on March 29.

Taking the cue from Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who wanted a bigger majority, Yussibnosh said he would have to tell the voters that BN was the only credible agent of change.

"I want to be seen as a people-friendly candidate by not only meeting them during this by-election but every time especially if they have problems if I win this by-election," Yussibnosh told the press at BN by-election operation room here yesterday.

The former Dalat district officer said he started his campaign yesterday by visiting the family of a fellow villager who passed away recently. He spent about half an hour at the home of the late Magdalene Misut Belideh, 70, who died of sickness.

Today, he is expected at an Iban longhouse — Rumah Geruna in Temesuk near here.

"We will campaign at the Iban longhouses first even though Melanaus are the majority in this constituency," said Yussibnosh.

He said the BN machinery would assist in the campaign to ensure that no area was left out.

The 48-year-old father of seven also took a swipe at the opposition for accusing the government of not fulfilling its promises.

"We heard it ourselves that the deputy prime minister on Monday had said that the government would build a secondary school at Balingian sub-district," he said.

Yussibnosh said he would put greater emphasis on education but that would not mean that he would set aside the people's infrastructure need.

"What we want to stress is the importance of education," he said.

In a separate press conference, Mukah police chief DSP Omar Bakhtiar Yacoob said the police were expecting an increase in election activities after the Kajang by-election on March 23.

He added that so far, both parties — the BN and PKR — had been campaigning in a mild manner.

"As of today, the police have not received any reports of untoward incident with regards to the by-election," he told the media at the police station here.

As of yesterday, Omar said they had received six applications for 'ceramah' (talk) permits from the BN and one from PKR. However, he reminded both political parties and their supporters to observe the laws at all times during the campaign period.

Omar said he had also sent an advisory note to both the BN and PKR to observe the by-election laws. He added they could apply for permits to hold talks any time but wanted them to apply early.

He added that they had received extra manpower from other parts of Sarawak to keep law and order during the by-election here.

Yussibnosh’s wife to help him campaign

Posted: 18 Mar 2014 12:54 PM PDT

MUKAH: Elizabeth Nelson, despite still breastfeeding her two-year-old twins, is willing to campaign for her husband Yussibnosh Balo, the BN candidate for Balingian by-election.

Elizabeth and Yussibnosh have seven children — four boys and three girls — out of which are two sets of twins.

The older twins are boys while the younger ones are girls who are still breastfeeding.

The couple, however, suffered the loss of a disabled child just last year.

When met by the media at the launch of Welfare and 1Azam Programme at Kpg The, Mukah, Elizabeth said she would give full support to her husband by cooperating with the BN machinery to help him campaign throughout the whole duration of the election campaign.

Tall and slender, Elizabeth, who is an Iban from Simunjan, said in order to help her husband, she has engaged relatives to look after her children.

"It is my responsibility to assist my husband for his success," said Elizabeth, who looked after their children full-time before this.

When asked if she was ready to assume the role of a wife of an elected representative, she said she would have to change and adapt to the needs.

"That is the responsibility of being a wife," said Elizabeth.

During the short interview, Elizabeth held on tightly to the hands of BN Balingian women's by-election deputy chairwoman Datuk Fatimah Abdullah as she was very nervous at being interviewed by the press for the first time.

Fatimah, knowing full well Elizabeth's inexperience, thus promised to hold Elizabeth's hands throughout the campaign period.

"It was a big sacrifice for Elizabeth to be away from her children who she is still breastfeeding to help her husband to campaign," said Fatimah.

The Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister said she would bring Elizabeth along in the campaign for Yussibnosh although Elizabeth would not have to speak.
