Strengthening Nations Through Military Cooperation

Bandar Seri Begawan: ASEAN Defence Ministers emphasized that one country alone cannot ensure the security of its own or the entire region, especially with the emergence of a new wave of security challenges ranging from natural disasters to Transnational Crime, said the Permanent Secretary for Defence Policy and Development, Ministry of Defence during the Launch of the First ASEAN Defence Interaction Programme (ADIP), yesterday morning at The Badi'ah Hotel at the Sultanate's capital,  ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

Colonel (R) Pengiran Dato Paduka Hj Azmansham Pg Hj Mohamad stated that the Seventh ADMM last year adopted the concept paper of having a region-wide defence interaction programme as guided by the aspirations of ASEAN to stand united under "One vision, One Identity and One Caring and Sharing Community".

He calls to working together towards enhancing ties between ASEAN defence establishments and institutions besides encouraging the idea of community building and integration and to promote a sense of belonging and ownership as the citizens of ASEAN.

During the two-day programme, delegates discussed regional cooperation in the areas of defence and security.

The programme has been designed to promote values of unity to nurture a sense of respect for diversity, equality and mutual understanding, besides creating and deepening bonds of lasting friendship. A.D.I.P brings together more than twenty junior level defence and military officials from the ASEAN region.

Times Square organised ‘Armed for the Undead’

Bandar Seri Begawan: Times Square Shopping Centre has been taken over by zombies! All caged up in a mini warehouse, customers of Times Square are invited to join the fun that has started on Wednesday, 19th March 2014,  ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

The "Armed for the Undead" event or more commonly known as the Nerf versus Zombies experience is an innovative form of entertainment that Times Square Management has organized specially for this year's first school term break. With an entry fee of only $3, customers get to choose their "weapon" or Nerf Gun and walk their way into the zombie infested arena. Supported by The Brunei Milsims Cosplayers, customers were also given a short briefing of the rules to ensure a safe playing environment.

"Armed for the Undead" will be open at 11.00 am daily and continue to entertain customers until Saturday, 22nd March 2014 at 9.00 pm. However, the arena will be closed after 6.00 pm on Thursday, 20th March 2014 and reopened on Friday, 21st March 2014 at 2.30 pm. The first day of the event has been a success so far garnering several feedbacks saying that it was "fun yet terrifying."

Times Square is also glad to announce that we will be holding several fun events in April as well. Such events include the annual Times Square Spelling Bee and Superhero Sunday. Business entrepreneurs briefed on fern

Bandar Seri Begawan: The Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources through the Agriculture and Agrifood Department has identified the potential of a fern to be grown on a big scale, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

A briefing was held for a group of business people on the production of the fern, scientifically known as Pteridophyte plant.

The briefing, among other things, focus on the ideal conditions of growing the type of ferns found abundant in the Sultanate. The plants are extremely diverse in habitat, and reproductive method is through spores and roots.

Some twenty two entrepreneurs and flower nursery owners attended the talk, given by the Head of the Ornamental Plants and Flowers, Dyg Farah Ani Hj Gapor, and a Horticulture Officer, Dr Maria Concapcion Iranzo Amat.

Two part programme for students by the Philippine embassy

Bandar Seri Begawan: The 11th Filipino language and cultural programme saw 34 children that learned conducts in accordance with the local Malay traditions, held at the Philippine Embassy in Brunei during the first term break, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

A piece of literature by Filipino poet, Francisco Baltazar was also recounted by a teacher.

The March edition of a programme is a preparation for the longer version to take place in July, where novels will be discussed in addition to cultural songs and dance.

20 volunteer teachers from Brunei Educators Club under the Filipino Association in Brunei are to oversee the 5 beginners, 14 juniors and 15 senior students.

The programme is held by the embassy on behalf of children of overseas Filipino workers who were born and raised in Brunei in preparation to when they will return to the Philippines one day.

The graduation ceremony on March 21 will also celebrate the recent International Women's Day.

MoH to establish hospital visitors board

Bandar Seri Begawan: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has taken the initiative to establish a Hospital Visitors Board in efforts to get inputs and views on the quality of patient care at all government hospitals in the country. It is also intended to gather feedbacks in improving further the quality of services and health care to the public, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

Yesterday morning, Old Board members were honoured at a gathering to present letters of appointment to twenty six new members of the Board for the 2014-2016 sessions. Permanent Secretary at the MoH Datin Paduka Dr Hjh Norlila Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Jalil presented the appreciation and appointment certificates. Members of the Board include those 'stakeholders' comprising of senior government officers, representatives of private sectors, Non-Government Organisation (NGO), community leaders at the grassroots level such as Penghulus of Mukims or Ketua Kampongs and members of the public.

Ford Sabah quest for five day expedition

Tutong: The quest was flagged off yesterday by the Premier Automobiles Sdn Bhd (PASB) Marketing Manager, Adeline Ng, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

The convoy is led by PASB Sales Manager Teng Chee How with 16 4×4 Ford vehicles from Ranger and Everest models, going to Kota Kinabalu while also stopping by at places like Tawau, Sandakan and Lahad Batu before returning back on Friday March 21.

60 participants have joined in including the staff and Ford owners along with their families.

The quest is one of PASB's initiatives to maintain strong relationship with its customers.
