Pelangi Awards 2012-2013: A night of glamour, elegance and beauty

Bandar Seri Begawan: Various local artistes and bands gathered together last Saturday for the 'Pelangi Awards 2012-2013' at the Jerudong Park Amphiteatre, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

This was the fifth show organized by Pelangi FM which helped several Bruneian artistes to advance further on a more regional and international level such as the likes of ABU TV Song Festival 2012 in Seoul, South Korea and Anugerah Planet Music 2013 in Singapore.

This Pelangi Award is a form of reward and recognition from Pelangi FM, Radio Television Brunei (RTB) to local artistes such as composers, lyricists, musicians, producers and vocalists.

The 'Pelangi Awards 2012-2013' consist of six categories ranging from Chosen New Solo Artist, Chosen Duo/Group, Chosen Duo/Group Vocal, Chosen Female Vocal, Chosen Male Vocal, Chosen Song and the Special Award.

The guest of honour of the event was the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman.

One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of the Chosen Song award category to Brunei's beloved artiste, Maria for her song 'Jika Tiada Jalan Lain' by the guest of honour.

PBSM volunteer to reach out for Tutong flood victim

Tutong: To ease the difficulties faced by the flood victims, the Red Crescent Society of Tutong District (PBSM) recently volunteered to help out. Haji Salleh bin Othman, the Director of (PBSM) and Assistant Director of the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BDRCS); and Haji Malik bin Haji Imbran, Assistant Director of PBSM and the Director of Disaster Management who was leading the team,©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

On duty officers and members of the association coordinated the relief efforts with the District Disaster Management Centre between January 23 and February 1 at the Community Hall of Tanjong Maya and Tanjong Maya Religious School.

This was aimed for assisting other agencies which includes the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Fire and Rescue Department, Community Development Department, as well as cooperating with other volunteer organization such as Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) and Gemilang.

The contributions included bottled water, meal packs and basic dry food to the residents of Mukim Tanjong Maya and Mukim Ukong.

When floodwaters began decreasing, volunteers continued to help out by cleaning the houses of the victims including Cikgu Jamil bin Kassim of Kg Sebakit Bawah and Yahya bin Haji Musa.

CNY celebration for Special Students

Kuala Belait: Director of Lim & Ho Employment agency hosted a special Chinese New Year celebration in house yesterday, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

Special students of Pusat Ehsan Belait District were his main guests.

Lim said "I am pleased to be able to do our part for the needy this festive season".

Ang pows were given to the students. Special buffet spreads were prepared for everybody.

Also, a lion dance was performed in his residence.

Lim Thien Ming stressed how important it is to give back to society.
