RB crew members suit-up in new looks

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Deputy Chairman of Royal Brunei (RB) Dermont Mannion announced the introduction of heritage-inspired uniform for its cabin crew members, Brudirect reported.

The move was inspired by this year's National Day theme 'Generation with a Vision' and in playing its part in sharing the unique culture of the Sultanate, said Mannion during a ceremony held at the Indera Samudra Grand Hall of The Empire Hotel & Country Club yesterday.

RB stated that the new uniform reflects tradition while evoking a modern simplicity and is the latest phase of the airline's rebranding programme.

The new blouses for female crew members have been tastefully detailed with traditional Songket patterns along the hem, trim and back. Colors will range from coral dust to morning sky to fresh mint, based on the seniority of the crew.

The warm spectrum of colors has been designed to reflect the friendly and welcoming nature of the new RB brand.

Matching traditional headscarves and flowing chestnut brown skirts will also complete the updated ensemble.

Meanwhile, male crew members will be wearing three-piece suits in matching brown, with a similar spectrum of Malay-inspired shirts and traditional standing collars.

The fabrics were carefully selected and tailored by Brunei-based Khazanah Lady House, with matching shoes from BATA Brunei.

Passengers will get their first on-board sight of this new culturally chic uniform in early April to coincide with the launch of Boeing Dreamliner services to Melbourne.

Mardyyana Hj Kasim, Brand Communications Manager of RB stated that the RB crew members are looking forward to wearing the uniform.

"I think the most important thing here is to ensure that they have a sense of pride when wearing the uniform" Mardyyana said, adding that this was why the crew members were involved from the start of the process of coming up with a new uniform. "It is very important that they love it when they wear it"

Besides making the uniform much lighter, Nur Rita Syakirah, the Head of RB Cabin Services, said that steps were taken to ensure that they follow the requirements of the Islamic regulations.
