His majesty receives in audience 5th earl of cranbrook, belait wildlife sanctuary discussed

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: His Majesty the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and the Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday afternoon consented to receive in audience The Right Honorable Gathorne Gathorne-Hardy, the 5th Earl of Cranbrook, at Istana Nurul Iman, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

Lord Cranbrook is currently in the country on invitation by the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR) for the launching ceremony of the Sungai Ingei research project, Phase II – "Faunal Biodiversity Survey in the Extension Zone of the Proposed Belait Basin Wildlife Sanctuary" yesterday.

Present at the audience ceremony were Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Yahya Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar, the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, and David Campbell, the British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam.

Bandar welcomes Burger King

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brought by Sinofood Express, the first Burger King restaurant located at Jalan Sultan opens today February 25, from 10am to 10pm, bringing its flame-grilling sensations to the nation, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported

"Establishing the Burger King brand's presence in Brunei exemplifies our commitment to strengthen our global restaurant portfolio," said Elias Diaz Sese, Persident of BK AsiaPac Pts Ltd in a statement. "We believe that the Sinofood Express team has the business knowledge to build a strong presence in this market and we look forward to offering the same flame-grilled flavour guests know and love at Burger King Restaurants."

From officials from SInofood Express, the company is excited to partner with the globally known chain as there are humongous interests sparking amongst the locals, thus them opening up a joint in Brunei.

To satisfy the local's hunger for Burger King, the first joint will only be serving burgers and sandwiches as well as French fries and drinks on its menu. Saifulizam, the manager, said the management is working to bring in more menus for the restaurant.

More than 30 staff was trained for more than a month, to prepare themselves for the eager customers. Saifulizam was in Jakarta, Indonesia to train under Burger King, of which he then passed the knowledge to the local staff.

The management conveys its apologies in advance if the service was not up to standard due to the expected high demands upon opening.

Sinfood Express opened the joint at Wisma Jaya, Jalan Sultan in Bandar Seri Begawan, saying that the heart of town has extreme potential with lots of corporate offices and hosts majority of the tourists.

Sinofood will work with BK AsiaPacLtd in the near future to open up more joints. Local media as well as bloggers were given a hands-on opportunity to make their own burgers yesterday.

Sultan sends congratulatory messages to Kuwait Leaders

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send congratulatory messages to His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AI-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, and His Highness Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, the royal family as well as the government and people on the occasion of Kuwait's 53rd National Day,  ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

The message to His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, stated that His Majesty greatly valued the warm and close brotherly ties that existed between Brunei Darussalam and Kuwait and looked forward to continuing to strengthen the friendship and bilateral cooperation between both countries.

Meanwhile, in a message to the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, His Majesty stated that he greatly appreciated the warm and close cooperation between the both countries and peoples and looked forward to further opportunities to strengthen this much-valued cooperation in the year ahead.

His Majesty prayed that Allah the Almighty bless His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, and His Highness Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, with continued good health and the people of the State of Kuwait with progress and prosperity.

His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, also sent a Congratulatory message to Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait on Kuwait's National Day.

His Royal Highness said he is delighted to send his deepest respects to the Emir of the State of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and congratulates him and the government as well as the people of the State of Kuwait on its 53rd National Day.

"It was a pleasure seeing you at our Asia Cooperation Dialogue Ministerial Meeting in Manama last November and I much appreciate the valuable contributions and leadership Kuwait has given not only to the organisation but also to the region. I am very happy to see that our embassies are now well established and doing much to bring our people closer together in friendship and understanding," said His Royal Highness.

His Royal Highness added, "With my kindest regards and best wishes to you and your family for good health and happiness and to the people of the State of Kuwait for a most enjoyable celebration."

Colorful days for Brunei Darussalam

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Sultanate's 30th National Day was celebrated in grandeur and a display of patriotism uniting tens of thousands of people from all walks of life at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium yesterday, Brudirect reported.

His Majesty the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and the Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha had consented to grace the celebration, with the chose theme of "Generation with a Vision" that was clearly demonstrated in a vibrant three-hour spectacle put up by over thirty six thousand people from various government and private agencies as well as students from education institutions.

Accompanying Their Majesties were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Bini Hajah Faizah; His Royal Highness Prince Jefri Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel.

Also present were Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Umi Kalthum Al-Islam as well as other members of the royal family.

Their Majesties were welcomed by the Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awg Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong; Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Suyoi Hj Osman; and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah who was also served as a Chairman of the Executive Committee for the celebration.

At the field of the National Stadium, His Majesty consented to inspect a royal guard of honor mounted by personnel from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) and Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF). Upon His Majesty's return to the royal dais, the National Anthem "Allah Peliharakan Sultan" reverberated in the stadium, led by a one-hundred-and-fifty-member choir. The field show kicked off with a combined performance from the Fire and Rescue Department, RBPF, Prisons Department as well as the RBAF.

A group of Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) paratroopers, one of whom was a woman, descended from the skies above the stadium.

A contingent made up of thousands of Fire and Rescue Cadets, Police, National Service Programme and Army alumni also involved in a physical feat that follows "Youths with a Vision".

Racial and cultural harmony was demonstrated in a field performance entitled "National Identity", performed by over three thousand and six hundred primary and secondary school children, highlighting each of the Sultanate's seven ethnic groups through a range of traditional dance moves.

Over four thousand students and a further nine thousand and five hundred people seated in the in the National Stadium took part in 'Human LED Performance'. The event saw a march past by a total of one hundred and forty teams led by the giant national flag bearers, followed by the team of oath readers, National Day logo flag bearers as well as uniformed personnel. The march past was also participated by thousands of people from special needs individuals groups, government departments and ministries, private sector as well as NGOs and Expatriate Association.

A group of local bikers, Brunei Darussalam Motorcycle Association (PEMODA) and Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) enthusiasts made their National Day debut as well. This was accompanied by Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) Airbus A320 flying past at the National Stadium.

ASP Hj Mohamad Noor Hj Abd Rahman of the RBPF led thousands of people into the field for proclamation of the National Day Oath. He was accompanied by a team of thirty individuals comprising from those government and private agencies. This was followed by calls of "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is Great) three times, led by Awg Hj Md Fathi Foad Dato Seri Setia Hj Abu Bakar, a Religious Officer from the Islamic Da'awah Center.
