KUCHING: Sarawak finally got their Super League campaign on track with a convincing win over Sime Darby FC at the Stadium Negeri last Tuesday.

The 3-0 victory is in fact the biggest scoreline in the league so far with all12 teams having played three matches each.

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, it's early season yet. The Crocs still have 19 matches to play before the season close in June.

The stuation remains fluid as tactical decisions have to be adjusted as the Crocs face different teams.

But Head Coach Robert Alberts made the right adjustments last Tuesday.

The decision to play striker Milorad Janjus with captain Joseph Kalang Tie in an attacking role did wonders.

The Serbian import had not enjoyed the best start in the earlier two matches.

Alberts commented after the Sime Darby match that fans need to understand that Milorad, nursing an injury, played through the pain barrier because he was determined to not to let his team and fans down.

He was justly rewarded when he scored Sarawak's third goal from a free kick.

Meanwhile, Alberts too praised central defender Gabor Gyepes whom the coach voted as the man of the match.

"He was simply outstanding today and he did very well for the team. His performance was the difference for Sarawak and this is what we expect from our imports – to add more dimension to the team's game," he said.

Gabor too got his name on the score sheet by scoring Sarawak's second goal from a penalty kick towards the end of the first half.

But the going is still tough in the top tier M-League. Joseph Kallang and Akmal Rizal Ahmad Rakhli appeared to have joined the injured list.

There is good news for Sarawak in that Mohd Rashid Aya got out of that list when he came in as a second-half substitute in the match against Sime Darby. His return may prove crucial in providing more attacking options when the Crocs take on Selangor away in the FA Cup second round on Feb 4.

'Onus on Curtin Sarawak to produce top graduates' – BorneoPost ...

MIRI: Curtin Sarawak has an increasingly crucial role to play in producing highly-skilled graduates to meet the country's goal of becoming an industrialised nation by 2020.

Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin said Curtin Sarawak had strong links to various industries that it supported and was committed to providing real benefits to its students and the wider community.

"Curtin Sarawak produces many skilled young people here in Sarawak and they will contribute enormously to the growth and development of our state.

"This, too, is the profound testimony of Curtin Sarawak's success," he stated when officiating at Curtin Sarawak's Appreciation Dinner held at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club (EVGCC) here last Friday.

Lee, who is also the chairman of Curtin Sarawak Management Board, pointed out that the university had helped put Sarawak on the world map thus making it well on the road to fulfilling its vision of making Sarawak a developed state and preferred education destination in the country.

He said the university has come a long way since its establishment in 1999 and is now a leading tertiary education provider in the region, offering students from all over the globe internationally-recognised degrees at a most affordable cost.

"In order to produce more graduates, we need to raise awareness of the importance and benefits of higher education amongst our young people and to encourage them to enter universities, not only for themselves but for the good of the country as a whole."

Malaysia's educational goals as outlined in the Malaysian National Education Philosophy (NEP) are geared towards achieving the nation's vision to prepare children to become knowledgeable, trained and skilled individuals to meet the growing needs of the millennium and strengthen the country's economic competitiveness.

To achieve this, the government is implementing holistic measures to strengthen education and training systems, starting from early childhood to tertiary education in order to churn out a skilled and knowledgeable workforce.

"Curtin Sarawak and other institutions of higher learning are supporting the government's efforts by providing curriculum and learning experiences designed to develop the potential of students in a holistic and integrated manner, to produce graduates who are intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically balanced and harmonious."

Also present were Curtin Sarawak's deputy pro vice-chancellor Professor Yudi Samyudia cum chief executive and chief operating officer of Curtin Sarawak Nicholas Ching.
