Serious attention to Pulau Laut Ring Road

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: South Kalimantan government pays serious attention to the Pulau Laut ring road, Kotabaru District, the eastern region of the province, Antaranews reported.

"One proof of the seriousness of the concern, the Governor asked it to be budgeted in the 2015 provincial budget," said Head of South Kalimantan Public Works Martinus before meeting with DPRD Commission III on construction and infrastructure as well members of Kotabaru legislative assembly here on Thursday.

According to him, a repairment or improvement of the ring road is planned to use the multi-year budget system during the four fiscal years. But he did not disclose the amount of its budget.

"We expect an increase of the ring road will be open access to areas that store a wealth of natural resources as potential development capital and improvement of people's welfare," he said.

Moreover, Kotabaru has Sambar Gelap Island, which has great potential as a tourist attraction. It was said that the underwater panorama of the island region is not lost, even better than Bunaken, North Sulawesi.

Head of Highways (Bina Marga) Region III Kotabaru Abdul Hamid explained, Pulau Laut  ring road length of approximately 300 kilometers. Kotabaru Government is currently proposing the status of the road into a provincial road.

"From the Pulau Laut ring road, Kotabaru local government in fiscal year 2014 to handle Tanjung Serdang – Lontar road at a cost of Rp34 billion," said Abdul Hamid.

PTPN took its responsible for Paringin workers

PARINGIN , South Kalimantan: State-run plantation company PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) XIII is not letting off 194 casual workers and 42 permanent employees of Special Nucleus Estate Smallholders (Pirsus) Afdeling II Paringin, who lose their jobs, AntaraNews reported.

PTPN Tambarangan Estate Manager (who oversees Pirsus II), Priyo Harjono, here on Wednesday said PTPN have fulfilled its obligations.

"As a form of corporate responsibility, to the casual workers have been offered indemnity amounting to Rp65 thousand per day starting from May 22 until May 31, 2014," he said.

In addition to the compensation, it give an offer to work again with the same status in the PTPN Tambarangan.

Previously, on May 22, 2014, PTPN XIII transfer the land concession of Pirsus II Afdeling Paringin covering 2,071 hectares to the national coal mining company, PT Adaro Indonesia.

All plantation activities stopped abruptly thus making the 194 casual workers and 42 permanent employees of Pirsus II losing jobs.

According to him , to the 42 full-time employees also offered to continue working with PTPN in another district or retire early.
