Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin said this would include ensuring that there is sufficient water supply for consumers and the agricultural community in the state. Yahya, who is also Agriculture and Food Industry Minister, when met after visiting the site for the proposed SK Petagas and SMK Petagas in his constituency yesterday, said this when asked what steps the government would be taking in preparation for El Nino which the Meteorological Department had predicted could be happening from the middle of this year. "We do not know which areas in Sabah will be affected but we have taken preventive measures like ensuring there will be sufficient water supply for farmers. We are also creating awareness among the farming community not to waste water," he said. Yahya who is also Petagas assemblyman, also advised the public to do their part in conserving water by using it sparingly and also to report any incidence of pipe leaks to reduce the wastage. "Water shortage will affect all of us so we want to prevent this," he said. The government has set up a special cabinet committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to face the weather phenomenon from June to September. The World Meteorological Organisation has also predicted that El Nino could persist from six to 18 months, and if this were to happen it would worsen the water supply situation in the country. |

How hitz Sabah announcer Cassie expresses herself – BorneoPost ... Posted: 04 May 2014 04:02 PM PDT KOTA KINABALU: hitz Sabah Drive-Thru announcer Cassie has many ways to express herself — on air, meet people and through music, fashion and art. When Cassie moved back to Kota Kinabalu four years ago, she became friend with a local artist named Lybby Iliyas who taught her a lot about the art scene in Sabah. "This is when my stencil love affair started … A stencil is a thin sheet of card, plastic, or metal with a pattern or letters cut out of it, used to produce the cut design on the surface below by the application of ink or paint through the holes. "The first stencil I ever cut was a proboscis monkey. It took me two full days to finish cutting the stencil and it turned out so well I became obsessed! Thanks to Lybby, she helped me sharpen my stencil skills and we started spray painting! I did a piece at The Jungle Skatepark Likas, and then we became more ambitious and did life size stencils at Cuts Gallery, Centre Point and my office at Astro Radio!" she said. Cassie added she could not stress how important it is for her to express herself by using words, fashion, art, music, photography or food. "Be animated! The last thing you want to be is an implosive person … Allow yourself to let off some steam!" she said. Cassie hosts the hitz Sabah Drive Thru from 4pm to 8pm every weekday and the one thing you would notice most about her is her deep and husky voice. Besides being a radio personality, Cassie is also an emcee and aspiring DJ. She made her debut at the Borneo Dance Music Festival on December 28, 2013. |
