Speaking Out |
Posted: 30 Apr 2014 03:39 AM PDT Congratulations to our RFS presenter Peter John Jaban, who has been honoured as one of "100 information heroes" for World Press Freedom Day (3 May) by the NGO Reporters Without Borders. We hear him express his gratitude to his RFS comrades and listeners. Michal Jok, secretary of the organisation Scrips, is holding a training course in Tanjung Terpalit, Baram. He tells the show that many communities still are not aware of their indigenous rights and he plans to launch more programmes to enrich their knowledge. The police have ruled the planned May 1 Anti-GST tax rally 'illegal', but the decision is being rejected by PKR's Padang Serai MP N.Surendran. He tells RFS that people have rights to freedom of assembly under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012. It would be the police who would be breaking the law if they stopped the public from attending! Lastly, RFS brings a special report regarding women's empowerment and emphasises the UN agreement that women must be treated as human beings, not commodities. Stay Tuned for more! |
