Gawai, unites the Dayak community Posted: 29 May 2014 05:32 AM PDT A holiday unique to Sarawakians, Gawai will be celebrated on 1 June. Nicholes Bawin, Sarawak PKR Dayak leader says this festival is the symbol of unity, aspiration and hope for the Dayak community, and is the chance to let youth understand the spirit of Dayak through the traditional forms of celebrating Gawai. And RFS is giving our listeners a chance to take part in informing their local communities when they return to join their local longhouse festivals. He tells us that they are facing problems sending their children to school, and they are facing health problems due to lack of adequate healthcare. He also informs us that SEB's promise of RM850 per month has not been distributed and that he and headmen have lodged a police report. This month indigenous communities fighting against the Baram dam have been blockading for an astonishing 7 months. We speak to SAVE Rivers leader Philip Jau who appeals to others to help get SEB out from Baram. And we receive a call from a villager from Niah.
