KUALA LUMPUR: The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda) is inviting interested parties in Sabah and Labuan Federal Territory to apply for the feed-in approval (FiA) for renewable energy quota allocated for the areas.

This follows the recent opening of the Seda office in Kota Kinabalu to provide additional support for renewable energy projects in Sabah and Labuan.

Seda said Minister of Energy Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili recently announced that two megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic (PV) with a capacity up to 12 kilowatts (kW) per application would be allocated to individual applications.

Meanwhile, 5MW with a capacity of above 425kW up to 1MW per application is being allocated to non-individuals. Seda said the minister also announced a separate quota allocation of 5MW solar PV with a capacity of up to 200kW per application for the community of Sabah and Labuan as well as peninsular Malaysia.

It said three types of institutions are eligible under the community solar PV quota, namely, educational institutions comprising primary, secondary and non-profit mission and independent schools.

It added that places of worship such as mosques, churches and temples, as well as registered welfare homes are also eligible for the community solar PV quota.

Seda said interested individuals can register using the e-FiT online system on May 2 from 7am to 2pm and the system will immediately pre-allocate quota upon fulfillment of the online requirements.

It said commencing 4pm on May 2, solar PV individual quota applications in Sabah and Labuan could still be submitted via the e-FiT online system with a new method called the e-FiT with New Queue System.

Under this method of application, the system would go through a new queuing process and solar PV service providers are required to secure a queue number in the e-FiT online system on May 19, starting 10 am until 5pm. The quota will allocated by the number assigned to each applicant.

Seda would be organising a tutorial on the new queuing system on April 30 at its Putrajaya office. Those interested can register online at the authority's website, www.seda.gov.my.

It also reminded the applicants to engage a solar PV service provider to submit their feed-in tariff application online. As for the non-individuals, a profile set-up can be made from 4pm on May 2 to May 23, while manual submission must be done at the Putrajaya or Sabah offices from May 19-23.

Meanwhile, for the community solar PV quota, a profile set-up can be made from 4 pm from May 2 to May 30 and registration can be made using e-FiT online system from July 1 onwards. — Bernama

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Film producers should give priority to featuring the beautiful natural environment and culture in Sabah and Sarawak in their films, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

He said this was because the two state's natural beauty and cultural diversity contributed to the overall beauty as well as uniqueness of the country.

"I want Sabah and Sarawak to be also given priority by film producers and the industry operators in their works," he said when officially opening the Lotus Five Stars cinema, here last night.

Ahmad Shabery said the involvement of many intrepreneurs in setting up more cinemas in the country would provide a bigger opportunity for the industry players to produce and screen more films.

The willingness of the cinema entrepreneurs to make a huge investment in this would enable the public to enjoy watching movies as a recreational activity due to the high visual quality of the films and the sound system, he added. — Bernama
