HRH Prince ‘Abdul Malik Launches New Labour Department Building

Bandar Seri Begawan: The new four-storey building of Labour Department was officially launched yesterday by His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik. Located at Jalan Menteri Besar, the BND$6.8 million building marked the commencement of His Royal Highness's work placement at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

His Royal Highness was greeted on arrival by the Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman; the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja (R) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi Hj Md Yussof, the Acting Commissioner of Labour, Awg Hj Rani Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Hj Md Yusof, as well as Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA).

The function commenced with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Hj Awg Suhaili Hj Mohiddin.

His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik consented to sign a plaque commemorating the official opening of the new building.

To bless the function, doa selamat was read by Yang Di Muliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Hj Awg Suhaili Hj Mohiddin.

The construction of the new Labour Department Building was fully completed in August last year and began its operation on April 14 2014. It was one of the projects under the 2007-2012 National Development Plan (NDP).

The construction Project of the Labour Department, is hoped to enhance the productivity and effectiveness of services to be more systematically and efficient, as well as for the comfort to the public. These include the provision of new counters for insurance engagement that consolidated on the ground floor of the new building on lease to the Takaful Brunei Keluarga Sendirian Berhad, and Insurans Takaful Keluarga Islam TAIB Sendirian Berhad, and Insurans Takaful Am Islam TAIB Sendirian Berhad.

All the counter services which previously located at the 4th floor of the National Registration and Immigration Department are now placed at the ground floor of the new building. However, the Law Enforcement of the Labour Department is still remained at the ground floor of the National Registration and Immigration Department.

Their Highnesses Concluded 5-Day Official Visit to Republic of Indonesia

JAKARTA, INDONESIA: His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman yesterday consented to leave the Republic of Indonesia after concluding a five-day Official Visit, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

Accompanying His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness were His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Muntaqim and Her Royal Highness Princess Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah.

Prior departing the hotel where Their Royal Highnesses were residing during the Official Visit, a Doa Selamat was read by Yang Dimuliakan Begawan Pehin Khatib Hj Awg Metassan Hj Tahir.

Present at the Halim Perdanakusuma Airport to bid farewell was the Deputy Minister of Defence, Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Mr. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. At the Holding Room, His Royal Highness consented to receive a 'pasambah', an album containing photos of His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness taken during their Official Visit to the Republic of Indonesia presented by His Excellency Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia.

His Royal Highness then consented to present a souvenir to His Excellency. Also accompanying His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness was the Deputy Minister at Prime Minister's Office, Dato Paduka Awg Hj Ali Hj Apong.

Also present at the airport were the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Brunei Darussalam, Her Excellency Nurul Qamar and representatives from the office of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia and Special Forces with their wives; the Commander of Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base; and Military Attache at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to Brunei Darussalam.

Also present were the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Hj Mahmud Hj Saidin and wife.

Monarch Consented to Receive in Audience Two Outgoing Envoys

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and the Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to receive in separate audiences two Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of friendly nations who will be completing their tour of duty to the country at Istana Nurul Iman, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

His Majesty first consented to receive in audience the outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Saudi Arabia to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Mohamad J.A. Hashim.

His Excellency presented his Letter of Credence to His Majesty as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Saudi Arabia to Brunei Darussalam on July 9 2007.

Next to have an audience was the outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Kenichi Suganuma. His Excellency presented his Letter of Credence to His Majesty as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam on November 29 2012.

Minister Calls for Science-Driven Community as Platform for Innovative Society

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The presence of science centres is something that is highly valued by any community and can transform the landscape of the society in many ways; be it physically, socially, educationally or culturally. According to the Minister of Education, the science centres undeniably serve as educational resources for primary and secondary students and also as a destination for the greater community,©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong made the remarks during the Opening Ceremony of the 14th Annual Asia Pacific Network of Science and Technology Centres conference (ASPAC) 2014 yesterday.

The minister said science literacy can stimulate a knowledge-based society, promote sustainable development and foster innovation and creativity.

The annual conference serves as an avenue for science educators, learners, science centres and policy makers to meet. For the first time ever, a nationwide science outreach initiative to schools will be conducted by overseas ASPAC members in all four districts, involving almost two thousand students and teachers from over one hundred and sixty schools.

An expert from the United States, Dr Emlyn Koster in his keynote speech stated that societal progress and environmental stewardship are the world's most pressing needs, but that these also stimulate opportunities for science-driven innovation.

The Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) is hosting the ASPAC 2014 with the theme 'Building a Community Through Science'. ASPAC 2014 is sponsored by Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Company Sendirian Berhad and supported by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Ministry of Development (MoD), and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and Institute Technology Brunei (ITB).

Royalty Graces Girl Guides Association Tenderfoot Badges & Letters of Appointment Presentation Ceremony

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association will continue to renew and refine its strategic and action plans through the appointment of young leaders in the new era of administration, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul, the President of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association, consented to attend the Tenderfoot Badges and Letters of Appointment Presentation Ceremony for the 2014-2016 Session of the association which was held yesterday at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium Sports Complex in Berakas.

Upon arrival, HRH Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul was greeted by the Chief Commissioner of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association, Dyg Hajah Siti Hafsah binti Haji Abdul Halim and members of the association's council. The association was established 63 years ago with the motto "Siap Sedia" (Be Prepared) and "Sentiasa Menolong (Lend A Hand).

The Chief Commissioner of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association, Dyg Hajah Siti Hafsah binti Haji Abdul Halim, in her welcoming address, said that Her Royal Highness' presence reflected Her Royal Highness' attentiveness towards the Association's initiatives and direction.

This year, 100 girl guides and ranger girl guides, 98 brownies and five new leaders received their membership badges and 6 leaders received the Pre-Warrant Cards while five leaders received the warrant cards.

At the ceremony, HRH Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul presented Letters of Appointment for 2014-2016 Session to 55 association members. Her Royal Highness as the President of the Brunei Darussalam Girls Guide Association, along with the Deputy Presidents for life, Chief Commissioner, Deputy Chief Commissioners and other members of the association will serve as the main driver for the development and administration of the Brunei Darussalam Girls Guide Association.

HRH Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul also consented to present tenderfoot badges to new members. The recipients comprise of students from colleges and secondary and primary schools from throughout the country. Prior to receiving their membership badges, the recipients have passed a tenderfoot test after being a member of the association for three months. The membership badge is the main condition to enable members to participate in activities organised by the association or the World Girl Guides Association and Girls Scout Informal Education Program (WAGGGS).

At the end of the function, Her Royal Highness consented to sign the Brunei Darussalam Girls Guide Association Constitution. In its 30 year history, the association has a total of 9,500 registered members and received their membership badges. Last year, the number of registered members is 1,800. There will be more than ten thousand members of the Brunei Darussalam Girls Guide Association if they are still active.

To conclude the ceremony, the Doa Selamat was read by the association's Spiritual Commissioner, Dyg Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Abd Ghani. The Tenderfoot Badges and Letters of Appointment Presentation Ceremony was one of the annual activities of the association.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to receive in audience member of the House of Representatives and Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, Mr Taro Kimura, Brudirect reported.

Accompanying Mr Taro Kimura at the audience ceremony was the Principal Deputy Director, Second Southeast Asia Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr Wataru Ishikawa.
