Lajim says leaders who left were liabilities to party

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chief Datuk Lajim Haji Ukin yesterday thanked Barisan Nasional (BN) for taking Matunggong assemblyman Datuk Jelani Hamdan and Kadaimaian assemblyman Jeremy Majalad out of PKR.

"We thank you BN for bringing these people into BN. These leaders have been nothing but liabilities to the party (PKR)," said Lajim during a press conference held at the PKR Sabah headquarters.

He also clarified that only eight PKR leaders were leaving the party instead of the reported 11 leaders, two days ago.

Lajim said those confirmed leaving the party were division chairman from Silam (Juhani Abd Halim), Kinabatangan (Mustapha Tambuyung) and Kota Marudu (Anthony Mandiau).

He could not confirm if the Beluran district representative would be leaving the party as well.

"I am not sure if they were not being promised something, but that is impossible. I am disappointed with the division chiefs as well as those who are involved. We provided tickets for them to go to KL (Kuala Lumpur), food and lodging at the hotel, and yet they utilized the PKR tickets not to attend our PKR congress but to enter another party. Where is the integrity of these leaders? If they don't want, they shouldn't use our tickets. Go and buy your own tickets," he said.

On Tuesday, 11 PKR leaders in Sabah quit the party and expressed support for the BN.

They comprised division heads, division deputy heads and division information chiefs from Kudat, Kota Marudu, Kota Belud, Sepanggar, Pensiangan, Beluran, Kinabatangan, Batu Sapi, Silam, Kalabakan and Semporna.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak told a media conference in Kuala Lumpur that these leaders had lost confidence in the PKR leadership.

He said this was the first wave of PKR leaders quitting the party in Sabah and that more would be following in their footsteps soon.

Lajim added that he had been forewarned of the antics of the former PKR leaders prior to his appointment as party chief.

"I was told that these people were bringing problems to the party. Hence, the approach taken by BN has assisted me and my friends. We don't have to get rid of these people."

He also said the leaders concerned were probably aware that they would not be holding any post in the party during the division selections to be held in March, next year.

"They know that they probably will not have the opportunity to defend their post. The post of division chairman does have its worth, and that is why they left," Lajim explained.

He added that the allegation made by Umno chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was untrue and said PKR Sabah still had 29 divisional chairmen.

He also said they would restructure the Kinabatangan, Kota Marudu and Silam divisions and the divisional chairmen who left would be replaced.

Lajim added that they would also make a recommendation to the central head to sack these individuals.

"We have yet to receive their resignation."

At the same time, he said other members expected of involvement would also be recommended for sacking.

When inquired of a second wave of PKR leaders leaving the party, Lajim said he did not know.

"But I think it will involve some of our members. I was made to understand that Jelani is going to form a new party and they are probably waiting to register; perhaps they will be submitting their forms when the party is launched. That will be the second wave," he said.

Sabah as the 'next Dubai' achievable, says Musa – BorneoPost ...

Posted: 27 Nov 2013 09:24 AM PST

KOTA KINABALU: The vision to make Sabah the 'next Dubai' is achievable through continued close partnership between the state government and the manufacturing and industrial sectors.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said apart from its strategic location within the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines – East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), Sabah also had a composition of positive factors it could bank on in achieving this goal.

This included the availability of petroleum and gas, large oil palm plantations, sawn timber and plywood, and political stability which allow for holistic development plans to be carried out. Sabah also has qualities that make it one of the favourite tourist spots in the world, and more importantly, the state government is clear about Sabah's potential as a thriving business and trading hub in the region.

"Lest it be said that the state only provides lip service to the proposed vision of Sabah being the next Dubai, I reiterate the state's commitment to this goal by sharing with you that the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) launched in 2008 is working out well.

"SDC leverages on key areas such as agriculture, tourism and manufacturing, and is working out well under the driving force of the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA), which is tasked with the primary responsibility of planning, coordinating, promoting and accelerating the development of SDC," he said.

Musa said this in his officiating speech at the launching dinner of Borneo International Trade Fair (BITF) 2013 here, last night.

The text of his speech was read by Special Tasks Minister Datuk Teo Chee Kang, who also officiated at the dinner on his behalf. Musa said the support given by the government to the latest effort carried out by the Federation of Sabah Industries (FSI) in promoting Sabah in the context of the manufacturing sector to turn the state into a hub for the Far East was also a testament to its commitment to make Sabah the next Dubai.

Musa, who is also Finance Minister, also noted that RM1.2 billion from the RM3.024 billion allocated to the state by the federal government under the 10th Malaysia Plan has been used as of September.

A total of RM503.3 million from the RM1.05 billion approved state funding has been spent while RM1.313 billion from the RM1.541 billion funds allocated to the SDC authority SEDIA have been disbursed. Furthermore, SDC has reached RM116 billion total committed investments since its launch almost six years ago, he added.

Touching on BITF, he said the popular biennial trade event had drawn much interest and unprecedented success in business transactions since its inception in 2007. He said the event provided the perfect stage for the state to promote its products and services at the international level, and to push local businesses to reach beyond borders in terms of marketing their products and services or to be exposed to various opportunities that were otherwise not available locally.

Stressing that BITF and other trade fair events played an important role towards achieving the next Dubai vision, he urged participants to take the opportunity to exchange ideas, knowledge and information, as well as to take up potential business prospects to be made available through the event.

Bruneian held in Sabah drug raid - The Borneo Post Online

Posted: 22 Nov 2013 04:48 PM PST

The Sabah police have detained two men, including a Brunei national, in connection with the seizure of about 10kg of methamphetamine (syabu) in two raids last Tuesday, Bernama reported.

The drug was worth about RM2.4 million at street value.

When the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Brunei Darussalam was contacted by the Bulletin yesterday, one of the officers said the NCB is still waiting for a full report from the Sabah police before they could comment.

Initial police investigations revealed the 35-year-old Brunei national was sought by the authorities in his country for criminal offences.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said on Nov 19, a police team was in the midst of raiding a house in Taman Nelly, Inaman when a man alighted from a car nearby about 9.30pm.

He said the police nabbed the 32-year-old when they found him carrying a bag containing two packets of syabu weighing about one kilogramme.

Later, the police found a bag containing syabu weighing 85 grammes in the master-bedroom of the house, he said, adding that a Brunei national was also picked up.

Datuk Hamza said the arrests of the two suspects led the police to raid a condominium at 1Borneo, the following day, resulting in the seizure of 8,917 grammes of methamphetamine in the master bedroom.

Subsequently, the police seized three cars and a motorcycle, all registered in Brunei, and valued at RM650,000. -Bernama
