‘Academic research helps govt to step up security’ Posted: 30 Nov 2013 11:28 AM PST KOTA KINABALU: Research by academicians on territorial delimitation and security helps the government to step up the country's security, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said yesterday. He said such a research helped the government to identify problems, as well as measures to address them. "For example, universities can contribute by conducting research and giving suggestions to the government. "The contributions from universities will also instill awareness for us to together preserve the country's peace, security and sovereignty," he said when opening the Security and Public Order Seminar here yesterday. The seminar is jointly organised by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Institute of Public Security, IPSOM), the Royal Malaysia Police and the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM). Musa, who is ESSCOM chairman, said ESSCOM was established to ease the trauma and anxiety among the people following the terrorist intrusion in Lahad Datu last February. He said various development programmes, like restructuring of new villages , as well as placement of security personnel on land and sea, were carried out to enhance security, especially in the east coat area, to prevent a recur of the Lahad Datu incident. "Preserving the country's peace and sovereignty is the responsibility of all quarters and not the responsibility of the security forces alone," he added. — Bernama To enable your comment to be published, please refrain from vulgar language, insidious, seditious or slanderous remarks. However not much has been heard about the sports school. There is not much information available so far. Koh opined that maybe it would be a good idea for the ministry through the National Sports Council (MSN) to call up all sports associations to have a meeting with the sports school authorities. This will serve as orientation and to provide information and guidelines on the intake and the qualifications on how to get enrolled. The sports associations may then forward all prospective students through MSN as a one stop center to forward the applications to the sports school. << Previous Entry - Next Entry >> To enable your comment to be published, please refrain from vulgar language, insidious, seditious or slanderous remarks.
