KKIFF 2014, which will be held at the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) from June 1-12, is divided into three components – making films, talking about films and watching films. KKIFF falls under the umbrella of the Society of Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu (SPArKS). The film festival is co-organized by SPArKS and Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA). Movie buffs will be pleased to know that DOCS+, an activity under KKIFF, will hold screenings of 12 short and feature length films at JKKN Auditorium on June 6, 9, 10, 11 and 12. Also present at the press conference were SEDIA assistant vice president of marketing and corporate communications Jesi Jolumis Majungki, Counsellor from the Consular Office of Japan Hirofumi Morikawa and SPArKS president Roger Wang. Meanwhile, A Step In The Right Direction is a documentary directed by a Sabahan, who is now based in Tasmania. Minimum wage order being reviewed for improvement Posted: 23 Apr 2014 11:59 AM PDT SANDAKAN: The National Wages Consultative Council (NWCC) is in the process of reviewing the Minimum Wage Order 2012 towards improved and effective implementation of the order for the private sector. Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Ismail Abdul Muttalib said as provided under the NWCC Act 2011, a review of the order should be made at least once in two years. "The order was gazetted in 2012, which means it should be reviewed this year and a new order enforced next year," he said after opening the integrated support clinic on the implementation of the Minimum Wage Order here yesterday. The announcement on the minimum wage implementation was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on April 30, 2012 and it was gazetted on July 16, 2012. The Minimum Wage Order 2012 became effective on Jan 1, 2013 with the monthly minimum wage set at RM900 for the peninsula and RM800 for Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan. Ismail said for the purpose of review, a seminar on reviewing the order was held with the International Labour Organisation and World Bank last month. It was aimed at identifying appropriate indicators that should be included in considering any proposal from the stakeholders. Ismail believed the NWCC and Minimum Wage Technical Committee would give emphasis on the indicators so as to reach a good decision. He said the employers and industry players should immediately put forward their views and suggestions, if any, to the NWCC secretariat by this May 31, the latest. Ismail said there were 14 million workers in this country, with 5.8 of them working under their employers, numbering 600,000, while the rest were self-employed. He said in the Minimum Wage Order enforcement operations conducted by the Manpower Department by checking on 6,588 employers between January and March this year, 179 of them were found to have not obeyed the order. — Bernama |
