Posted: 29 Apr 2014 12:51 PM PDT

SIBU: Police are appealing to operators of entertainment outlets here to keep the peace, with police chief ACP Mohd Kamal Kordi pointing out yesterday that the majority of incidents at such outlets were fights over women.

"Incidents of men fighting over women occurred at entertainment outlets almost on daily basis," he said.

He said in most cases, some parties were intoxicated and weapons were used.

"Many cases have gone unreported," he said.

Mohd Kamal said this at a dialogue session with Association of Entertainment Centres Sarawak (AECS) at police headquarters here.

He lamented the lack of cooperation from the operators when the police investigated fighting cases reported at their stations.

"The operators usually denied seeing the suspects or the victims at their premises."

The police chief also highlighted four other issues concerning entertainment outlets.

"Your patrons have been blamed for causing traffic congestion," he said.

The three other issues mentioned were operating beyond the stipulated hour, drug abuse in the outlets and underage patrons.

ASP Tega Bilong, meanwhile, said there had been two murder cases at pubs over the past two years.

He said in the first three months of this year, the police had conducted 32 raids on entertainment outlets with a total of 263 patrons taken to the police station for questioning.

Police also seized about 20gm of Syabu and 15gm of ketamine during these raids, he added.

After the dialogue session, Mohd Kamal presented framed police hotline numbers to the members.

Sibu Karaoke Association chairman Sim Lih Ping and AECS president Tang Yew Sien were present at the meeting.
