Rafizi barred from entering state again

Posted: 21 Apr 2014 12:47 PM PDT

KUCHING: The state government again barred PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli from entering the state.

A State Immigration Department spokesman confirmed Rafizi, also Pandan MP, was denied entry upon arrival at the Kuching International Airport at about 6pm yesterday.

He was not allowed to pass immigration and told to take the next flight back to Kuala Lumpur.

This is the second time that Rafizi was denied entry to the state.

During the Balingian by-election last month, Rafizi and several PKR leaders were denied entry at the Sibu Airport.

Surprisingly, PKR women chief Zuraida Kamaruddin, who was also barred at the Sibu Airport, was allowed entry last Friday at the Kuching International Airport.

Earlier yesterday, PKR Sarawak chairman Baru Bian told reporters that Rafizi and party secretary general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail were due to arrive in Kuching yesterday.

Both were said to be coming to Kuching for an activity related to the party's coming election.

Baru also said the inclusion of PKR leaders in the list of people banned from entering Sarawak as a 'very interesting issue'.

"You are very aware that YB Zuraida was banned in Sibu, but she was allowed to come into Sarawak last Friday.

"If they don't ban them (Rafizi and Saifuddin) this time, it is very interesting scenario, very interesting legal argument. We wait and see.

"I hope they (the state government) allow them to come in. I will make my statement tomorrow (today)," he said during the press conference at 11am yesterday.

Meanwhile, PKR Sarawak vice chairman See Chee How when contacted clarified that only Rafizi arrived yesterday while Saifuddin did not come.

According to previous media reports, PKR would proceed with legal action to challenge the bans during the Balingian by-election.
