National Family Day to Be Held on May 4 Across the Sultanate

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: National Family Day will be held simultaneously across the country on Sunday, May 4 2014. The celebration will begin with a mass Maghrib and Isya prayers, followed by the recitation of Surah Yassin and Doa Kesyukuran at all mosques and suraus on Saturday, May 3 with focus at main mosques throughout the country, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

Meanwhile, the National Family Day celebration 2014 will be held at nine selected zones. Subuh prayers and lectures will also be held on that Sunday.

In the Brunei Muara District, the Suboh prayer and lecture will take place at the Kg Pulaie Mosque and Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah for Zone One and Two. While celebration at Zone One will be held at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sport Complex and Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Silver Jubilee Park for Zone Two.

For the Brunei Muara Zone Three, the Suboh Prayer and Lecture will be held at the Pengiran Muda Abdul Malik Mosque in Kg Tungku, Gadong and Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Mosque in Kg Jerudong will be the venue for Zone Four.

In the Belait District, the Suboh Prayer and lecture will be held at the Al-Mashor Mosque in Kg Sungai Mau for Zone One and the Pandan National Housing Scheme mosque for Zone Two. While the Family Day celebration will be held at the Sungai Mau Multi-purpose Hall and at the Silver Jubilee Park in Kuala Kuala.

Meanwhile the Suboh Prayer and Lecture for the Tutong District will be held at the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Tutong Town and the Hajah Aminah Prayer Hall at Kg Long Mayan where the celebration itself will take place at the designated zones.

In Temburong District the Suboh prayer and lecture will be held at the Utama Muhammad Salleh Mosque in Bangar Town while the celebration will be held at the Bumiputera Business Complex and the open Wharf area in Bangar Town.

Speaking at the media conference in conjunction with the celebration, the Deputy Minister of Culture Youth and Sports, explained that among the objective of the celebration is to strengthen and improve family well-being through join-effort programme effectively and efficiency toward generating quality community.

Datin Paduka Hjh Adina Othman as the Deputy Co-chairperson of the celebration, added that the celebration also enhance community understanding on the importance of family institution in the community development in the country.

Members of the public are welcomed to attend the Family Day celebration according to their respective zone. Various celebration events have been line-up by the organiser to be participated by those attend.

The activities include religious, educational, sporting, recreational and cultural events such as religious lectures and motivational talks, zikir competition, tausyeh and family nashid, family seminar and workshop, family walkathon or jogathon and sale of village-made products.

During the event, Deputy Minister of Culture Youth and Sports received Family Day 2014 Posters handed over by the representative from the Information Department. The posters will be distributed to all the nine zones throughout the country.

Foundation-Laying Ceremony for the Airport’s New Surau

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Ministry of Communications and the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) today held a foundation-laying ceremony for the construction of the new Surau (Prayer Hall) for the Brunei International Airport, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

The ceremony took place at the project site at the Brunei International Airport in Berakas.

The ceremony, marked by concrete-pouring for the 'Tiang Seri' or main pillar was officiated by the Guest of Honour, Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Awg Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Minister of Communications.

Also in attendance were the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Communications, Awg Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office and Chief Executive Officer at the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), Dr Abdul Manaf Hj Metussin, and Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Development, Awg Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin.

The Surau located in the vicinity of the new Brunei International Airport Terminal will provide Muslim worshippers with an additional and better praying facility in addition to the existing prayer rooms available in the Airport Terminal. In line with the Titah of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in May 2012 for the modernised airport to showcase the characteristics of the Malay Islamic Monarchy country, the new Surau will feature unique Islamic and Bruneian architecture as a prominent symbol of Islamic eminence in the country.

The Surau will be constructed on a raised platform and can be seen by both departing and arriving passengers. Facilities such as ramps, covered walkways and trolley bays are provided for ease of access and passenger convenience. Locally manufactured construction materials will be used for the dome and minarets.

The Surau will accommodate at least 300 worshippers and is expected to be completed by the end of November 2014. Built at a cost of BND$3.26 million, the project is undertaken by a local contractor Putera Permai Sdn Bhd under the consultancy of P.A.Y Architects, and is expected to completion in October this year.

Marine Life Diversity Research Project officiated

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The government continue to take steps in monitoring condition of corals in the waters of the country which have not been researched including type of species and number of corals in every square metre, Brudirect reported.

Yesterday was a rapid marine bio-diversity assessment of waters of Brunei Darussalam Phase III was officiated at the Serasa Fish Landing Complex in Muara.

The research project is being coordinated by three experts in the field along with 12 officers and staffs of the Fisheries Department. Also providing solid support was the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awg Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar.

Such project will enable the Fisheries Department to refer to the information from the research in its long-term planning to manage various marine life in the waters of the country as a whole. It is in line with the management objective of protecting marine areas which was enforced last year.

Also present was the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Dyg Hajah Normah Suria Hayati binti Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Dr. Awg Haji Mohamad Jamil Al-Sufri.

Boating accident caims 2 lives

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A fishing trip turned into a tragedy when two senior citizens who are in their early sixties lost their lives after drowning in a boating accident at Sungai Bunga on Thursday night, Brudirect reported.

The deceased were identified to be a Bruneian and a Malaysian.

Two other persons, who are relatives of the local senior citizen, survived the incident. The thirty-eight-year-old man and his nine-year-old son were sent to Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital for immediate medical attention.

The group of four earlier went to Sungai Bunga in Mukim Kota Batu to catch fish using fishing nets.

According to a Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) spokesperson, the incident occurred after 8pm when the boat's propeller reportedly got entangled in the fishing nets, causing the boat to suddenly spin out of control, throwing all four people overboard.

RBPF is currently conducting an investigation into this tragedy.
