Hassan is a player though he’s not playing

KUCHING: Hassan El Mohamed is making news again for all the wrong reasons. The Lebanese import player signed to play for Sarawak in April.

The striker, who can also operate from the midfield, has made only five appearances for the Crocs to date.

He has failed to score any goal so far.

A persistent ankle injury has ensured that he made news as doubtful or injured for all other matches.

In the latest episode, Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) even have to come out to state the obvious – that Hassan is a Sarawak player.

FAS deputy president Datu Mohammad Abu Bakar Marzuki told reporters yesterday that Hassan El Mohamed is still "very much a Sarawak player."

"Hassan's contract runs until the end of this year but one thing is sure for now is that his career in Sarawak is not over just yet. We have not discussed anything regarding his future at the Stadium Negeri," he added.

This was apparently to address rumours that Hassan is no more with Sarawak or that he has been replaced.

Meanwhile, coach Robert Alberts appears resigned to the fact that Hassan and another import Muamer Salibasic will play little or no part in the upcoming Malaysia Cup competition.

Sarawak will play their first match tomorrow.

"It is not the end for the team as we have adequate back ups. I have faith in the current players that are available for the team," he said.

FAS acts against counterfeit tickets

Posted: 12 Aug 2014 09:04 AM PDT

KUCHING: Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) wants to get tough with those selling counterfeit match tickets.

It said that the main reason the Stadium Negeri, which has a capacity of 25,000, seemed over-crowded in recent Super League matches was the sale of illegal tickets.

At a press conference held at the Stadium Negeri yesterday, FAS secretary-general Abdullah Julaihi made an appeal to fans.

"It is not so much that we want profit for ourselves regarding the sale of tickets. We have the fan's safety to worry about apart from wanting to see Sarawak win all their matches there," he said.

"There is a need to take more severe action against this type of offenders as the association have received so many reports before this. We have taken action before this but it seems that there are still fans who buy and use them," he explained further.

He pointed out that one way to differentiate a counterfeit ticket with the genuine one is by the holograpic stickers.

These stickers come with high security features.

"To be safe, I hope fans are able to identify our authorised ticketing agents or buy it online instead. They can also go to the stadium to buy them on match days," Abdullah commented.

It’s on – Sarawak play Terengganu on Thursday

Posted: 12 Aug 2014 09:03 AM PDT

KUCHING: There will be no change in the schedule – Sarawak's Malaysia Cup opening match against Terengganu will be on this Thursday at the Stadium Negeri.

This was confirmed by Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) secretary-general Abdullah Julaihi when met by reporters at the Stadium Negeri yesterday.

"Our preparations is going out according to planned so far and we have not received any updates regarding the date change. "I hope fans will turn up in full force for the match," he stated.

He added that the Terengganu team is scheduled to arrive in Kuching today (Aug 13) as further indication that any schedule change is unlikely.

There has been speculation that the match might be re-scheduled due to possible arrival of the remains of victims of the recent MH17 plane disaster on Thursday from the Netherlands.
