HRH Princess Hjh Rashidah Attends 5th Girl’s Guide Community Day

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah, the President of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guide Association yesterday consented to attend the 5th Community Day Celebration at the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guide Headquarters in Kg Anggerek Desa, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

Her Royal Highness was greeted on arrival by the joint adviser and chairperson of the function. Also present was Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nurul Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador At-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The recital of Surah Al-Fatihah was led by Dyg Hjh Fatimah Hj Abd Ghani. This was followed by the National Anthem and followed by the Girl's Guide and Pacific Region songs.

The Association's Commissioner, Dyg Siti Hafsah Hj Abd Halim in her welcoming address among others disclosed that the Activities Section of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guide Association had planned new community projects and will be implemented by its members regardless of their age and position in the association.

The purpose of the project is purely the continuation of the motto of the association to be 'Be Prepared' and always provide assistance which is in line with the Health and Cleanliness Projects of the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guide Association.

The function was also highlighted with a number of activities including handicrafts making by the Brownies, colouring activities and sticking-up pictures of their previous community works such as assisting victims of flooding and mosque cleaning. Meanwhile the Girl Guide, Girl-Guide Rangers and Youth leaders produce Rose Flower arrangements.

Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah also consented to receive a 'Pasambah' in the form of handicraft arranged by the Brownies, Girl Guides, Girl Guide Ranger and Youth Leaders.

Among the highlight of the 2014 Community Day was the cutting if the birthday cake by Her Royal Highness.

Doa Selamat was recited to bless the occasion. Her Royal Highness's presence showed Her Royal Highness's serious attention toward developments of Community projects being undertaken and planned by members of the association.

Celebrating Diversity for Common and Shared Values in Bali

BALI, INDONESIA: His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade yesterday attended the inauguration of the 6th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in Bali, Indonesia, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

The opening ceremony of the forum was held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre. Joining His Royal Highness at the occasion was His Royal Highness's daughter, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Mansurah Izzul Bolkiah.

The Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilisations was inaugurated by the President of Indonesia, Dato Laila Utama Dr Hj Susilo Bambang Yudhuyono. It was attended by the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr Ban Ki Moon; Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, His Excellency Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao; as well as Deputy Prime Ministers, Government Ministers and delegates from one hundred and thirty nations and international organisations.

Among the international organisations present include the United Nations (UN), Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) and the European Union (EU). The 6th UNAOC carries the theme "Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Diversity for Common and Shared Values".

After the inauguration of the 6th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade attended the Forum's ministerial meeting. In his Sabda His Royal Highness expressed Brunei Darussalam's appreciation to the Alliance's role in giving ordinary people confidence in developing a future that respects all faiths, cultures and societies.

His Royal Highness also highlighted that the process of regionalism and globalism has brought many improvement and also new worries and fears.

PKBN Graduates Can Now Continue ‘O’ Level Studies and Beyond

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Graduates of the National Service Programme (PKBN) will now have the chance to continue their studies and take their 'O' Level Examination. Permanent Secretary of Culture Youth and Sports, Dato Paduka Hj Md Hamid Hj Md Jaafar, said the ministry along with the cooperation with Ministry of Education will offer further studies and 'O' Level Examinations which will begin early this year besides offering various business short courses, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

The Permanent Secretary of Culture Youth and Sports said this matter during the launching ceremony of the third intake of the National Services Programme yesterday.

Dato Paduka Hj Md Hamid Hj Md Jaafar said as an effort by the government through the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports for the National Services Programme, they will continue to work in improving the programme to ensure the effectiveness of producing quality trainees with the introduction of a new module.

Dato Paduka Hj Md Hamid also highlighted the programme hoped to achieve its objective which were to produce a dynamic, competitive and outstanding youth generation which were in line with the main objective for the youth generation of the country. He also said at the same time the programme will help to prevent the youth to be influence by immoral social activities that can destroy their life and future, such as the current outbreak of 'yolo swag' and other juvenile delinquencies.

Seventy six participants comprised of fifty eight male trainees and eighteen female attended the programme. The three-month programme will end this November that will see sixty seven supervisors, coaches and medical people running the programme which was made up of several government agencies and full-time professional volunteers.

The launching ceremony took place at the PKBN training camp, Sport Village at the Hassanal Bolkiah national Sports Complex in Berakas.

Locals Must Change Work Attitude to Outdo Foreigners

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Local employees should give their commitment and support towards the government's efforts to balance the employment of foreigners and locals in the job market by showing that they are on par and possessed of similar or better qualities in comparison to foreign workers, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

In this way it can eradicate doubt and negative views on the quality of local workers. This was emphasised by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports at the Certificate presentation and Best Trainee Award for Scaffolding Short Course for 2nd and 3rd session.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah also stressed that it is the responsibility of local workers to raise the image and competitive value in the job market. However, Yang Berhormat reminded that a success in this employment field or any job in the private sector not only depends on practising the skills learned but is also dependent on attitude and mindset changes as well as high commitment to the job by the worker.

Forty-one participants received their certificate after completing the short course, which was an initiative of the Youth Development Centre with the cooperation of the Blue Oceanic Management Service. The function continues with the signing of employment document with two local companies. Scaffolding course has a higher demand in the job market because the skill is not only needed in the oil and gases industries but also in the building construction sectors which are currently dominated by foreign workers. The certificate presentation ceremony was held at the Youth Development Centre.

Their Majesties Consented to Attend Diplomatic Corps’ Reception for 68th Birthday

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: His Majesty the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and the Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha yesterday consented to attend the Diplomatic Corps Reception in honor of the Monarch's 68th birthday at The Royal Berkshire Hall, Jerudong Polo and Country Club (JPCC).

Upon arrival, His Majesty and Her Majesty were greeted by the High Commissioners and Ambassadors of friendly nations to the country and spouses, led by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Victor A. Seleznev, as Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.

Representing the Diplomatic Corps, His Excellency Victor Seleznev, Ambassador and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam in his welcoming speech stated that thanks to His Majesty's benevolent leadership, the Sultanate enjoys peace, tranquility and prosperity.

"It is a pleasure to admire the strong sense of determination and will of the Government and people of Brunei Darussalam to unite efforts in work towards prosperity through economic, religious and cultural progresses preserving social harmony and traditional values" said His Excellency Victor Seleznev.

His Excellency further mentioned that over the years, the Diplomatic Corps have witnessed the Sultanate's "outstanding efforts in creating a world peace and security", adding that Brunei continues to play its unique role in regional and international affairs, particularly the successful chairmanship of 2013 ASEAN Summit, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

In concluding his statement, His Excellency Victor Seleznev wishes His Majesty and the people of Brunei good health and happiness.

Their Majesties were later consented to a presentation of souvenir followed by meeting the Diplomatic Corps.

Heads of Diplomatic Missions in the nation's capital have taken into consideration an utmost care shown to the development of national culture and arts and obvious success of local "seniman" in opening up the Sultanate to the knowledge of compatriots the world over.

Therefore it was decided necessary to extend the support to the efforts aimed at promoting Bruneian culture and talented local painters whereby a canvas "Mengungkap Khazanah yang Hilang" (Contemplation on Disappearing Treasures) by a renown painter Ajihis. The latter is a member of Brunei Artists Association.

The painting shows a vision of Kg Ayer, which is a cradle of Bruneian civilization. For many centuries it was the heart of the Sultanate that attracted guests from different countries of the region and beyond, providing them with safety, fresh supplies and friendly atmosphere; attributes that correspond with the country's name as Abode of Peace.
