Posted: 25 Aug 2014 07:56 PM PDT

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN:To ensure that teachers have attained the level of knowledge and skills required, the Ministry of Education has introduced a framework for Brunei Teachers' Standards (BTS). According to the Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong, the standardisation is to ensure that local educators are following the guidelines for professional teachers who practise life-long learning and always equip themselves with information on current developments, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

The Minister of Education in his address at the Launching Ceremony of the Brunei Teachers' Standard, stressed that BTS is a benchmark for assessing the educational landscape in the Sultanate, which is hoped to be able to further upgrade the teaching quality or standard of teachers in the country.

The Minister went on to say that Brunei Teachers' Standard (BTS) will take the latest form and is capable of raising the teaching standard by providing a high and challenging perception to students. Its more comprehensive and compact contents and methods would certainly change the way educators teach while at the same time enabling students to learn in a more organised manner.

Brunei Teachers' Standards (BTS) underline teachers' professional knowledge and skill and the aspect of Professional Engagement as its main core elements. Through Professional Knowledge and Skill, teachers are required to involve students in challenging intellectual learning, by identifying the students' level of knowledge, capability and efficiency.

Such approach involves learning that is based on a well-organised method, adapting learning with the students' needs by knowing their learning problems as well as making effective assessments. Through Professional Involvement, teachers are required to adopt the Best Practices that can give a positive impact to the students' learning. Teachers are expected to show that their profession is of high quality or standard.

The ceremony also saw the launch of several training sessions on Brunei Teachers' Standard which will begin tomorrow in groups, and further extended until February 2015. Also during this ceremony, BTS posters were handed over to zone representatives of government primary schools, secondary school and college clusters, and government institutions of vocational and technical education as well as Heads of private schools zone. Also present was the Deputy Minister of Education, Dato Seri Setia Hj Awg Yusoff Hj Ismail.
